What is it?

The Print Logger software is intended for a control and audition printing activity for print servers. The program inspects the print jobs on a computer, where software is installed. Main assignment of the program - collection of the information about sizes (in pages and money units) of local print jobs and record it to the database for the subsequent analysis or creation reports about printing activity.

Besides the program can inspect sizes of printing according to the defined quotas and to prohibit printing, if the quotas are exceeded. Quotas for printing is very powerful and effective mechanism for cost management on printing in your organization. Limiting printing activities for some employees, you can really save on a paper, a toner for printers (especial at a color printing), expenses for repair and service for printers.

·
·collection of the information and control of printing jobs for the selected user (users);
·collection of the information and control of printing jobs for the selected group (groups);
·collection of the information and control of printing jobs for the selected computer.

The listed ways can be used as together, and in various combinations, allows to apply the way, most convenient for everyone concrete case, for a control of printing.

The program has the modular architecture and consists of several modules:

·the collection module (main server module) - provides the process of collection of the information from printers, maintenance of a urgency of the information about the printer's configuration in the system, job control on printing;
·the remote information module - provides remote access to all statistics information remotely, useful for accounting, billing and administrative divisions;
·the "My print jobs" agent, may be running on client machines. This module allows to users to see they printed jobs and spent costs remotely;
·an administrative console module (plAdmin) - provides the process of the software configuration and definitions of quotas;
·remote control and access module - provides the remote access to the printing statistics;
·the HTTP and HTML module - provides the remote access to the printing statistics using embedded Web server, creates HTML reports;

the reporting module

the notification module - provides the notifications for users and administrators about printing events.

If you want to use a quotas for printing, you should to remember, that a base principle of job control is a mechanism of quotas. The quota is amount of pages (or money units) in the print job, which amount can not be exceeded. In case of exceeding quotas the print job is removed from printing and the information on it can be shown to the user (depending on the selected mode). The program can operate with four varieties of quotas:

·the quota for the computer - defines a maximum quantity of pages (costs), which can be printed by any user of the given computer on any printer of this computer;
·the quota for the user - defines a maximum quantity of pages (costs), which can be printed by the  on any printer of this computer;
·the quota for the printer - defines a maximum quantity of pages (costs), which can be printed on the given printer by any user

the quota for the group - defines a maximum quantity of pages (costs), which can be printed on the any printer by the given group.

NOTE: The quotas are summarized by the OR rule - if ANY of the defined quotas is exceeded, the print job is canceled. If the control of printing is not used, the program allows to print any amount of the information and only gathers the information on printing.

NOTE: Information and screen shots in this document is related to Print Logger EE edition. In different editions some features may be not available.
